Department of Conservation (DOC) Turning Point Alumni Day

The Department of Conservation (DOC) Southland’s commitment to Turning Point is paying off big time as evidenced at the Turning Point Alumni Day that was held in Invercargill on Tuesday 10th May.

Southland Conservator Barry Hanson opened the conference by giving a summary of his recent trip to the United States and showing how DOC Southland’s strategy for dealing with change and development was closely aligned to some ideas put forward in key note addresses that he heard when in the U.S.

Barry invited attendees to present ideas in terms of how they have been applying some of the principles, learning’s, concepts etc of Turning Point, in the workplace. There were some excellent ideas around improved efficiencies, more productive utilisation of time, direct cost savings that had been made, working smarter, identifying systemic performance impeders, dealing with change, and much more.

For my part, I was both humbled and proud to hear how the Turning Point graduates from DOC Southland had applied and integrated some of the key learning’s from Turning Point into their operational roles and their teams to achieve such progressive outcomes. Hearing the various people speak certainly vindicated Barry’s and the Senior Management Team’s visionary decision to embark on developing their people first and foremost.

Photos from this day will be posted shortly.
