Mami Yamaguchi

Facilitator

Mami faciltates Turning Point in Japan. Previously, she worked (in administration, marketing, and staff training) for a company that provides resources for national qualifications. In 1998 she explored the relationship between mind and colour at the Shikisai Gakkou (Colour Shool). She holds a diploma in Japanese literature.

After moving to New Zealand in 2000, she studied psychology under Dr Jamin Halberstadt, a cognitive and social psychologist at the University of Otago. She earned a PhD in positive psychology on the topic of goal pursuit and well-being. While studying for her PhD, she worked as a research assistant and a lab demonstrator at the psychology department.

Between 2002 and 2004, as a personal challenge, and to raise money for the Heart Foundation, she and her husband walked the length of New Zealand. In 2005 they cycled the length of Japan, a trip that was broadcast on Kumamoto TV. 

Since moving back to Japan in April 2011, she has run self-development seminars and courses for individuals as well as organizations. She also gave a number of talks on various topics such as stress management, mental care, parenting, partnership, positive leadership etc for various groups. She also appeared on local TV regularly as a commentator. She has had three books published in Japan between 2004 and 2006 that teach readers how to utilize their minds in a better way.

Mami and her family are back in NZ for their daughter’s education. She is currently working on her 4th book, and to set up on-line courses that empower people by helping them to develop psychological muscle.

She lives in Dunedin with her husband and 7-year-old daughter.
